Family Immigration

Family immigration refers to the process of sponsoring eligible family members to immigrate to Canada. Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their spouses, parents, grandparents, dependent children, and other eligible family members to become permanent residents of Canada. Family immigration is an important component of Canada's immigration policy, as it allows families to reunite and build a new life together in Canada. The Canadian government has established specific eligibility criteria and requirements for each family immigration stream to ensure that only eligible family members are sponsored, and that sponsors are able to support their sponsored family members financially. As an immigration consultant, it is important to provide guidance and support to clients through the family immigration process to ensure a successful outcome

Canada offers several streams of family immigration for Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their eligible family members to immigrate to Canada. Here are some of the main streams:

  • Spousal Sponsorship: Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner for permanent residence in Canada. To be eligible, the sponsor must be at least 18 years old and meet certain income requirements. The sponsored spouse must also meet certain eligibility criteria, such as being in a genuine and ongoing relationship with the sponsor.

  • Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship: Canadian citizens and permanent residents can also sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residence in Canada. The government of Canada has a quota on the number of applications it will accept each year, and sponsors must meet certain financial requirements to show that they can support their parents or grandparents in Canada.

  • Dependent Child Sponsorship: Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their dependent children under the age of 22 or over the age of 22 if they are unable to support themselves financially due to a physical or mental condition. Sponsors must meet certain income requirements and show that they can provide for their sponsored children's basic needs.

It's important to note that there may be additional requirements and criteria for each of these streams of family immigration. It's recommended to consult with an immigration lawyer or accredited immigration consultant for more information and guidance on the application process.
