Provincial Nominee Programs

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allows Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada and who are interested in settling in a particular province. These individuals must have the skills and experience that will contribute to the economy of the province or territory.

Each province and territory has its own specific criteria for selecting nominees, and the application process varies depending on the province or territory. In general, though, the process usually involves two steps:

  • The individual applies for nomination to the provincial or territorial government.

  • If nominated, the individual submits an application for permanent residence to the federal government.

The PNP is a popular option for individuals who do not qualify for other immigration programs, such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program or the Canadian Experience Class. It is also a way for Canadian provinces and territories to address their particular economic and labour market needs.
